The Volkswagen ID.7 is an all-new vehicle that will be available in the latter half of 2024 as a 2025 model. Ancira Volkswagen of San Antonio will soon be accepting preorders of the VW ID.7, and we do expect a custom factory order to be the best way to secure an ID.7 early on due to the high demand. This is the first electric sedan that Volkswagen has ever offered. It’s a midsize vehicle and takes the place of the Passat, which Volkswagen recently retired in an anticipation of this new option.
Interior
The all electric VW ID.7 is a two-row vehicle with a spacious interior. There’s ample headroom and legroom in the front row for even tall drivers, and the rear seat comfortably accommodates adults. The ID.7 has a spacious cargo area, and that space is roomier and more accessible than the usual sedan at this size because VW has eschewed a traditional trunk in favor of a liftback design. A glass roof is optional and can be switched between transparent and opaque at your preference.
Exterior
The all electric VW ID.7 is a four-door midsize sedan a sloping roofline that extends all the way the rear of the vehicle as there’s no trunk lid. The wheelbase is 117 inches, which means that the ID.7 is just a tad longer than the Passat model it replaces. Volkswagen has confirmed five exterior color options as of this writing: Grenadilla Black Metallic, Moonstone Grey Black, Aquamarine Blue Metallic Black, Glacier White Metallic Black and Scale Silver Metallic Black. Aluminum wheels will be standard, and we suspect that wheel sizes will range from 17 to 19 inches.
Mechanical
Every model will have a 77.0-kWh battery pack. EPA estimates are not yet available, but this setup should provide at least 300 miles of range based on its performance in other VW vehicles, such as the ID.4. Level 1, Level 2 and Leve 3 charging will be supported by all models. Most customers will want to have a Level 2 charging station as this is the fastest at-home charging solution allowing you to charge from 10% to 100% in under eight hours. Proximity keyless entry, push-button start and remote start are all standard features through Ancira Volkswagen of San Antonio as well.
Powertrain
Initially, the only configuration available for the VW ID.7 will have a single electric motor that drives the rear wheels. Horsepower and torque figures were not yet available from Volkswagen. There will also be a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration at some point later in the model year. A sport-tuned suspension is standard, and adaptive suspension dampers are a notable option.
Safety
A 15-inch infotainment touch screen is standard along with Volkswagen’s latest infotainment software. An augmented reality head-up display will be standard as well. Most advanced driver-assistance technologies will be included as well. Volkswagen has not provided a complete list as of yet, but some of the confirmed items include a rearview camera system with an optional 360-degree surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control with automatic lane centering, forward collision warning with automatic braking and lane departure warning with automatic steering assist.
