Volkswagen is one of the last manufacturers offering that option with their small sedans. An eight-speed automatic transmission is optional with those trims and otherwise standard. Hyundai offers a larger but non-turbocharged four-cylinder as its base engine. A turbocharged four is standard with the SEL Plus and Limited. The performance numbers are higher on paper for the Hyundai. The practical differences are not great, and the Sonata can’t touch the Jetta when it comes to fuel economy.
