The 2022 VW Atlas expresses its sophistication and confidence from bumper to bumper with its grand size and lean accents. Across the mostly smooth sides, lower-body molding and a decadent pinstripe add personality. At the front end, the Atlas has a flowing design with chrome, horizontal bars and double LED accents in the headlights. The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas is unchanged from a style standpoint, and it also has the same exterior features as its predecessor. Based on the trim, the Atlas may have up to 21-inch wheels, black trim, a hands-free liftgate, power-folding and heated side mirrors and proximity keyless entry.

While the exteriors of these two model years are comparable, there are several notable differences inside their cabins. In 2023, the Atlas SEL R-Line trim has been discontinued, and this has shifted the available and standard features across the remaining trim levels. For all of the 2023 Atlas trims except the SE, the Digital Cockpit Pro instrument cluster and its 10.25-inch display screen are now standard. The other features across the trims are unchanged between 2022 and 2023. The base Atlas trim comes with a wireless internet hotspot, heated front seats, two USB-C ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, simulated leather seats and other equipment. If you prefer a higher trim, both the 2022 VW Atlas and the 2023 version offer remote engine start, a wireless charging pad, USB ports in the second and third rows, a tri-zone automatic climate management system, voice controls, captain’s chairs, a panoramic sunroof, a navigation system, a Fender audio system with 12 speakers and leather upholstery.

From a performance perspective, the 2022 and 2023 Volkswagen Atlas are comparable on a trim-by-trim basis. The first three of the trim levels are equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder gas engine that generates 235 horsepower. This system comes with standard front-wheel drive, or you can opt for all-wheel drive as an upgrade. The higher Atlas trims for both years benefit from a 276-horsepower, 3.6-liter, V6 gas system. This engine is paired with all-wheel drive. A towing package is also available with the V6 engine that supports a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.
